Universe Day Press Releases

San Francisco, CA.

This Saturday, April 4th, 2026 is the 19th annual Universe Day, which celebrates the official birthday of the Universe. Universe Day occurs on the second Saturday in April each year.

Universe Day builds on Earth Day by encouraging individuals and organizations worldwide to design their own events to advance each year's unique Universe Day message.

This year, the Universe Day message is that resolving escalating climate change and global warming is now Job One for All Humanity.

The Universe Day annual messages are derived in part from the wisdom of Albert Einstein, who said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” The challenges we now face on a planetary scale—such as global warming and severe climate destabilization, wars, environmental pollution, and an unstable global economy—have serious consequences. Rather than allow ourselves to feel overwhelmed by these challenges, we can, as Einstein suggests, adopt an entirely new way of thinking. This is the impetus behind Universe Day: to expand our awareness of new approaches to solving these issues by adopting a broader, more useful scale of thinking within a new Universe Evolutionary Worldview.

In true Gen X, Y, Z, and A style, the Universe Day message and event are a no-ownership, no-ego, get-the-message-out-now, local and international, co-created event. Imitate it, adapt it, improve it. “Steal it, even if it hastens the spread of its vital message,” says Wollersheim.

Ideas are always welcomed that engage the levels of self, community, planet, and universe.

The 19th Annual Universe Day is facilitated by Job One for Humanity (JobOneforHumanity.org) and the Universe Institute (universeinstitute.org), a nonprofit climate-change think tank that researches planetary challenges using evolutionary, whole-universe-system perspectives and dialectical, complex-systems thinking.

Please Note: Universe Day is different from Earth Day in that it educates about how the principles of the universe and planetary evolution can be used to successfully solve our greatest personal and planetary challenges, which this year is focused on solving our planet’s largest challenge, the escalating global warming emergency, using a universe-scaled evolutionary worldview.

Universe Day invites everyone to self-organize and host local events to spread the Universe Day message!

Saturday, April 4th, 2026 The 18th Annual Universe Day Sparks New Universe Perspective and New Hope for Life, Society, and the Environment

A new Universe Evolutionary Worldview has evolved. At this time each year, Universe Day celebrates the official birthday of the Universe and promotes a new worldview as a better tool for managing the biggest challenges our planet faces today, such as severe climate change.

San Francisco, CA. -- Universe Day is an annual event occurring on the first Saturday of April. (This year, it is April 5th.) It seeks to pick up where Earth Day leaves off by educating on how the principles of evolution can be used to address our personal and societal challenges and to more effectively tackle our planet’s biggest problem, the climate change emergency, through a broader evolutionary perspective.

The message behind Universe Day is partly derived from the wisdom of Albert Einstein, who said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” As most people are aware, the challenges we now face on a planetary scale—such as the climate cliff, severe climate destabilization, war, pollution, environmental degradation, and a troubled global economy—have serious consequences. Rather than allow ourselves to feel overwhelmed by these challenges, however, we can, as Einstein suggests, adopt an entirely new way of thinking. Such is the impetus behind Universe Day: to expand our approach to these issues by adopting the much broader Universe Evolutionary Worldview.

"The progressive evolution of the universe as a whole system is the power that sustains our physical existence—both personal and planetary. We are embedded in the unstoppable flow of the evolutionary process, which, though invisible,  is the most dominant factor in all of life and in everything around us," says Wollersheim. "Recent cosmology and evolutionary biology discoveries have revealed more about the evolution of life and the cosmos in the last twenty years than in all the previous eras of human history combined. This is no small knowledge improvement. Humanity is now capable of understanding the full evolutionary scope of the biggest perspective and playing field there is—the evolving universe."

Part of the message of Universe Day is that universe-scaled evolutionary science can help individuals work more effectively together to rise to meet the most critical planetary challenges of our time --- global warming, AKA climate destabilization. “For starters,” Wollersheim says, “this requires that we all step up to ‘Job One For All Humanity’ and do the hard work that is necessary in order to lessen the human-caused carbon emissions that are causing our planet’s climate cliff and severe climate destabilization. The Job One for Humanity Plan also includes creating a more sustainable environment for succeeding generations since severe climate destabilization is already beginning to adversely affect everyone on the planet.”

"Universe Day is similar to Earth Day in that individuals and organizations all over the planet are encouraged to self-organize their events and meet-ups to forward the Universe Day message. Universe Day is a no-ownership, no-egos, get-the-message-out-now viral event. Imitate it, adapt it, improve it. Steal it, even if it hastens the spread of its message,” says Lawrence Wollersheim, Director of the Universe Institute and one of the founders of Universe Day.

Universe Day invites everyone everywhere to self-organize and create their local events.

Press Release # 2

Welcome to the 19th Annual Universe Day, Saturday, April 4th, 2026: Come Together and Celebrate Our Amazing Universe. Universe Day helps educate us on how to manage the world's biggest challenges.

San Francisco, CA. -- Universe Day is an annual event held on the first Saturday of every April.

Universe Day seeks to take you to where Earth Day leaves off. It helps us solve our planet's problems from a larger, universe-scale evolutionary perspective.

Universe Day is a no-ownership, no-egos, get-the-message-out-now viral event. Imitate it, adapt it, improve it, and even steal it if it means that its message is more quickly adopted for reversing the fossil fuel-caused global temperature increases and for building a more sustainable future.

The message behind Universe Day is partly derived from the wisdom of Albert Einstein, who said, "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." As most people are aware, the challenges we now face on a global scale, such as radical temperature increase, nuclear and traditional war, pollution, non-sustainable environmental degradation, and the global economy, have serious consequences. Rather than merely feeling overwhelmed by these challenges, Universe Day aims to broaden how one thinks about them by energizing a broader, universe-scale perspective and aligning lives and actions with universe-evolution-informed solutions.

"Similar to Earth Day events, individuals and organizations worldwide are encouraged to self-organize their own Universe Day events and meetups to forward the Universe Day message. Universe Day is a no-ownership, no-egos, get-the-message-out-now viral event. Imitate it, adapt it, improve it, and even steal it if it means that its message is quickly adopted to reverse the fossil fuel burning caused by global temperature increases and build a more sustainable future.

An essential part of Universe Day's message shows how universe-scale evolutionary science can help individuals work together more effectively to address the 13 most critical global crises of our time. For starters, this requires the "first things first" practicality and hard work involved in reversing fossil fuel-caused global temperature increases and building a more sustainable environment for succeeding generations.

Because 13 of our major global crises are worsening and their combined, humanity-ending effects are growing, it's everyone's Job One for Humanity to act now, says Lawrence Wollersheim, one of the originators of the Universe Day message.

"The progressive evolutionary momentum of the universe as a whole system IS the power responsible for sustaining our personal and global physical existence. We are embedded within evolution and moving within its unstoppable processes. Evolution within the universe is the most physically dominant yet invisible factor controlling all life and everything around us," says Wollersheim.

In the past 20 years, advances in cosmology and evolutionary biology have yielded more knowledge about the evolution of life and the universe than in all of human history. This is no small improvement. Humanity is now capable of using knowledge derived from the biggest playing field there is --- the universe."
