Humanity's first philosophies evolved from our ancestors' astute observations of the universe and the evolving living processes of the Earth. Before proceeding, it is necessary to briefly explain philosophy.

Philosophy is not an academic pursuit only for professors or the rich. Finding the best philosophy for living is an essential activity for everyone if they want to have a successful and good life. Henry David Thoreau wisely said, "Philosophy helps us solve life's problems, not only theoretically but practically."

Philosophy is traditionally defined as:

1. The study of the foundational nature of reality and existence, and

2. The theory or attitude a person or organization holds that acts as a guiding principle for their behavior and actions.

Philosophy not only guides actions, but it can also motivate actions. Therefore, it stands to reason that everyone should learn about philosophy, the deepest nature and realities of existence, and how that powerful information can guide their behavior and create a meaningful and sustainable personal success.

The Way of the Universe, a new evolutionary philosophy for humanity

The Way of the Universe is a new philosophy. It is based on the universe's history and evolutionary science, specifically the evolution of reality, existence, and sustainable living systems over the universe's 14.2 billion years of existence. But it also includes the philosophic wisdom of the past particularly the Taoists and Greek Stoics.

As best they understood it, our ancestors (particularly the Taoists and Greek Stoics) observed that the natural Universe was the powerful natural context that conditioned or controlled almost all of their circumstances and actions. Our wisest ancestors then learned to align themselves with the universe's natural, life-sustaining processes as best they could. How well they did so determined our ancestors' success and survival, and the fact that we are here today. (Researchers have stated that our ancestors' observations of the universe's patterns became important influences and origins for early religion and spirituality.)

The Way of the Universe is a pathway of practices to help you align your decisions and actions with the universe's oldest, most time-proven, and life-sustaining success patterns. Aligning with and living the universe’s time-proven success patterns will make your life more meaningful, successful, and sustainable.

The "Way of the Universe" also reflects a new worldview that embraces the latest scientific advances that are dramatically reframing our fundamental understanding of evolution, life, and our world. Exploring it means learning ground-breaking new scientific information about the nature and reality of existence, specifically:

The emergence of a new worldview is very rare. Only five new worldviews have emerged in the history of human evolution. A new worldview significantly expands humanity's view of life, existence, and processes. Whenever a new worldview emerges, there is great potential for major personal and societal shifts and improvement. Every past new worldview began a major transition, advanced human knowledge, and transcended the previous worldviews. The above description of the Way of the Universe (below) is designed to provide a tiny taste of how the Universe Spirit nonprofit organization is evolving. We are far from done with this evolution.

We estimate it will take 6-12 months to transfer 20 years of work (about 1,000 pages) from our old Universe Spirit website to this new one. During this massive transfer process, every page is under construction and updating.

We have to fix broken links, add updated language, and delete and edit grammar and spelling to bring our older materials up to date and in alignment with our new Way of the Universe theme and framing.
